Basque Government Public Companies join European Waste Prevention Week with a collection of mobile phones and tablets
'Mobiles for the Earth' is a project focused on the systematic recovery, awareness, and reduction of mobile phone consumption. It involves collecting out-of-use phones and tablets for refurbishment and subsequent resale, if possible, or sending them to authorized managers specialized in metal recovery, especially gold and other components. This action will continue until January 31, 2025.
7Rs of the circular economy: renew, recycle, recover, redesign, reduce, reuse, and repair
As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, Ihobe and other public entities organized a meeting where Alboan presented the campaign to staff from the aforementioned public entities of the Basque Government based in Bilbao. During the event, the importance of recycling was emphasized, as well as the need to strengthen commitment to sustainable development by focusing on the 7Rs of the circular economy: renew, recycle, recover, redesign, reduce, reuse, and repair. Raising awareness among individuals, companies, and public administrations about putting the 7Rs into practice results in reducing the volume of all types of waste, including electrical and electronic waste, that ends up in landfills.
European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR)
Ihobe serves as the technical secretariat for the European Week for Waste Reduction in the Basque Country, which will run until Sunday, November 24. The EWWR initiative defines a theme and a slogan for each edition, allowing common messages to be shared. In 2024, the issue of food waste was selected. On this topic, Ihobe worked with Elika – the Basque Foundation for Food Safety – as well as with Eroski and Uvesco, companies that are part of the Basque Ecodesign Center, to jointly deliver messages to citizens about waste prevention under the slogan: 'Good taste never goes to waste'.
