Ekoetxea Urdaibai hosts "Pictio, en compañía de la pintura" exhibition

Ekoetxea Urdaibai has opened today a new temporary exhibition entitled "Pictio, en compañía de la pintura”. The exhibit is a window to nature photography, in which the photographer, influenced and attracted by pictorial trends and the visual aesthetics that characterise them, visualises the result of the photographic process with their own style in which these influences are perceived or predominate, as the case may be.

Pictio tries to show a way of "seeing" in which the authors feel the result of these influences, as a not always conscious evocation, in the way of understanding the image of the painting, achieving an enriched style of capturing nature and landscape, in which pictorial photographic values are combined. A sort of new photographic style not at odds with the most known photographic disciplines. This exhibition comes as a result of an exhaustive selection of the work of the members of Portfolio Natural. The selected images are classified according to seven artistic currents by which they have been influenced.

The Pictio exhibition is the fourth collective exhibition of the Portfolio Natural group and includes works by 28 renowned natural landscape photographers. It is structured in seven pictorial movements over which the members of the Portfolio Natural collective have been influenced at some point in their own creative process: impressionism, surrealism, abstraction, symbolism, minimalism, romanticism and abstract expressionism.

The authors

Portfolio Natural is the result of the enthusiasm of a group of nature photographers who, given the scarce presence of these kind of images in the artistic circuits that exhibit and promote so-called "author photography", decided to bet on a more elaborate, more personal and more creative type of work. This collective is currently formed by 28 of the best nature photographers in Spain. It seeks to honour a type of photography often ignored by collectors, galleries and institutions and open a small gap within the artistic circuits, developing projects that go beyond the simple popularisation of science, documentary photography or mere tourist attraction.

The interesting diversity of the group, the passion for creative photography, and how demanding they are, as well as their belief that one can go beyond appearances to show a much more intimate vision of nature, have helped these 28 different ways of understanding nature to stay together for 13 years, with projects such as the book "Natura: Regards créatifs sur la nature" (Editions Altus) or the travelling exhibitions "Arte y Naturaleza: Una mirada creativa", "Natura: Regards créatifs sur la nature", "Abstract: Así vemos la naturaleza" and "PICTIO, en compañía de la pintura".

Pictio will be showing until 7 February 2021 and access is free.
