Ihobe’s suppliers want to learn more about clean technologies, climate change adaptation and green procurement

This is one of the conclusions from the survey that Ihobe conducted with its environmental consultancy suppliers during the 2021 Ihobe Suppliers Forum, held virtually on 19 February.

The meeting was opened by Ihobe’s General Manager, Alexander Boto. He outlined the priority lines of work, defined in the 2024 Strategic Plan and the 2021 Management Plan, which will allow Ihobe to drive its stakeholders in areas such as climate action, the circular economy and environmental sustainability.

Boto took a close look at the projects at the heart of Ihobe’s activity in 2021 and stressed “the suppliers’ strategic value to achieve the environmental goals arising from those projects. You are a key factor for our success,” the Ihobe General Manager pointed out.

The participants answered an electronic survey, with interesting results, in order to establish the degree of satisfaction of Ihobe’s suppliers, along with the environmental consultancy sector’s strategic knowledge needs. Areas such as clean technologies and the best available techniques, green procurement and climate change adaptation stood out as the knowledge areas where the companies believe greater and better expertise is needed.

The surveyed companies also indicated that the strategic consultancy areas where greater depth is needed are instrument cost-benefit analysis, modelling and legislative development.

With regard to their degree of satisfaction with Ihobe’s procurement processes, the companies scored highly (8 out of 10) the processes’ transparency and impartiality, along with their agility and efficiency.

Finally, the participants had the opportunity to put their demands to Ihobe. Specifically, they asked for more general information about Ihobe and its lines of work; more details about project forecasting; greater visibility of the suppliers; along with support for the geographical expansion of the Basque environmental consultancy and engineering sector.

The activity of Ihobe, the publicly-owned company of the Basque Government’s Ministry of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, will focus on implementing 15 strategic projects.

These projects are:

  1. New environmental legislation
  2. Planning for 2030 sustainability
  3. Eco-innovation
  4. Green employment and entrepreneurship
  5. Climate Action
  6. The circular economy and sustainable growth
