Ihobe part of EUROPARC Europe’s international expert groups on climate change and protected areas
Europar_ENHeld in Liguria (Italy) on 10 and 11 May, this second meeting was the opportunity to agree the content of a report for the European Commission, considering the challenges, problems and loopholes that need to be addressed in order for nature conservation and climate action to be integrated effectively Europewide. They also crosschecked the materials to foster adaptation of biodiversity prepared in the framework of the LIFE Naturadapt projects and aimed at managers of French protected areas.

The climate change group also addressed the organisation of conferences on adaptation and protected areas, and defined the content for the next Europarc-Europe meeting, which will be held in the French town of Argelès-sur-Mer on 4 and 7 October 2022.

The expert group also had the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the climate impact monitoring system and the climate change adaptation projects underway in the Portofino Protected Marine Area.

Ainhize Butrón, an Ihobe Climate Action technician, was one of the experts attending this international forum coordinated by the EUROPARC Europe Federation and Réserves Naturelles de France. At the event hosted by the Portofino Marine Protected Area, the expert from the Basque Government’s Environmental Management Agency took part in the working group whose members include Austrian Federal Forests, NatureScot (Scotland), Parks & Wildlife Finland, the Dutch Puur Water & Natuur, and the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Authority, headquartered in Rumania.

EUROPARC Europe

The EUROPARC Federation is the network for Europe’s natural and cultural heritage. It works to improve the management of Protected Areas in Europe, through international cooperation, exchange of ideas and experience, and by influencing policy.

As the representative body of Europe’s protected areas, EUROPARC is the collective voice for all nature and landscape areas. In addition, for the forum’s regular meetings, its work is focused on conserving nature and the sustainable development of Europe’s biodiversity, by fostering holistic landscape approaches in its management.
