The Basque Country is participating in New York Climate Week, as an example of an advanced region in climate action
A delegation from the Basque Government, headed by the Regional Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, and the Basque Government delegate in the United States, Unai Tellería, will actively participate in Climate Week, which is being held in New York between 17th and 21st September, and is considered the pre-summit to the November COP27 Climate Summit, which will take place in Egypt; it is doing so as an advanced region in climate action, to present the results of its policies and strategic projects, both in terms of mitigating emissions and adapting to the effects of climate change.
New York Climate Week is one of the most important events on the subject, which coincides with the United Nations General Assembly, bringing together the world's most influential leaders from government, business and civil society in order to drive and accelerate climate action.
The Basque Country is one of the 22 regions around the world that make up the "Climate Ambition Partnership" promoted by the United Nations, which is international recognition of the Basque Governments work and commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and to be a resilient region against the impacts of climate change.
Climate Group y Under2 Coalition are the organisers of New York Climate Week. Climate Group is a non-profit organisation that brings together 500 multinational companies in 175 markets around the world and is also the technical secretariat of the Under2 Coalition, the world's largest network of states, regions and local governments committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The Under2 Coalition is made up of more than 260 governments from around the world, representing 1.75 billion people and 50% of the global economy.
