Ihobe, a publicly-owned company, shares news of its progress with the Life Urban Klima project in Uhinak 2020
María Mar Alonso Martín, project coordinator for Ihobe, participated in Block IV of the Congress (Governance and management tools), explaining the deployment of the Euskadi Klima 2050 climate change strategy in the urban area. The experts participating in this block discussed integrated coastal zone management and marine space planning, ecosystem management and nature-based solutions, early warning and decision-making tools, coastal climate action plans and programmes, and communication, perception and citizen participation.

All the Life Urban Klima 2050 activities seek to make progress toward achieving the nine Basque Climate Change Strategy goals: low carbon energy model, emissions-free transport, increased efficiency and resilience of the territory, increased resilience of the natural environment, improved resilience and reduced emissions from the primary sector, urban waste reduction and zero untreated landfill, anticipating risks, driving innovation and responsible administration by the Basque government.

The Basque Country's intention for this legislature is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% and to ensure that renewable energy accounts for 20% of total energy consumption, It also wants to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality by 2050 and to transform into a more climate resilient territory.

The LIFE Urban Klima 2050 project, involving 20 organisations working in coordination to achieve a set of objectives, is led by Ihobe, a publicly-owned environmental management company within the Basque Government's Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment.
